This lecture explores the distinction between faith and worldly affairs. It asserts that belief in one God, many gods, or no god is a matter of personal choice. Religious practices like fasting and worship in various places of worship are permitted. Civilization, politics, economics, and social systems – collectively termed ‘collective systems’ or ‘neopolitic-socio-economic systems’ – are separate from religion. These systems, constituting the fabric of societal organization, fall outside the realm of religious doctrine and are governed by different principles.

The earliest form of worship was standing in prayer at night, initially for two-thirds, then one-third of the night, with recitation of the Quran. At that time, only a portion of the Quran had been revealed. Later, during the eleventh year, five daily prayers were mandated in Makkah. Before this, practices like fasting, interest, gambling, and alcohol were not prohibited. There was no complete established Sharia law; only faith (Iman) existed.

Dr. Israr Ahmad explains the importance of performing the movements of prayer (Salat) correctly and with complete attention. He highlights that rushing through the postures – especially transitions between standing, bowing (Ruku), prostration (Sujud), and sitting – constitutes a deficiency in prayer. Complete upright posture after rising from each movement is crucial, ensuring a moment of stillness (Qawmah) before proceeding. It is a universally acknowledged truth that among all books claiming divine origin or containing the word of the universe’s creator, only the Quran maintains complete textual integrity. No other scripture has remained fully preserved in its original form. All other claimed divine texts have undergone alterations or lack complete historical corroboration of their original content. This lecture details the unique preservation of the Quran.

The observance of fasting on the 9th and 10th of Muharram is a recommended practice, not obligatory. This practice originated when the Prophet Muhammad learned that the Jews of Medina fasted on the 10th of Muharram to commemorate their deliverance from Pharaoh. The Prophet stated that the Muslims have a greater right to Moses than the Jews, and thus instructed his companions to fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram instead, to differentiate their practice. This was done even before Ramadan fasting was made obligatory. The intention was to establish a distinct practice, fasting for two days instead of one.
