The greatest act of gratitude is towards one’s parents, a concept emphasized five times in the Quran. Simply *looking* at the Kaaba with reverence is considered an act of worship. Similarly, looking at one’s parents with love and respect is also an act of worship. This act of reverence, even without verbal interaction, holds significant spiritual reward. The Quran highlights the immense importance of honoring and showing affection to parents.
Allama Iqbal, at the beginning of the 20th century, foresaw the rise of a destructive ideology, even before its full manifestation in Nazi Germany. His initial work focused on economics, but he was a philosopher and a poet with profound insight. He recognized the seeds of a sentiment that would later fuel the Holocaust—the perception of being controlled by external forces. This early awareness, predating overt reactions within Nazi Germany itself, allowed him to anticipate the potential for extreme brutality. The systematic extermination of six million people, a horrific event, stemmed from this perceived control and the resulting resentment. Iqbal understood the danger inherent in such beliefs.
The Quran was not revealed all at once, but gradually over a period of time. This approach served multiple purposes. It allowed people to comprehend and internalize the teachings progressively, fostering deeper understanding and personal transformation. The gradual revelation accommodated the capacity of the audience, ensuring they could reflect upon and integrate the message into their lives. This method facilitated a lasting impact on their intellect, mindset, and overall character. The Quranic verse (Surah Bani Israel 106) explicitly states this intentional fragmentation to aid in recitation and comprehension.
This lecture addresses the core responsibility of Muslims: to convey the message of the Quran to all of humanity, not just the Muslim community. It emphasizes that failure to act upon and implement the Quranic principles has led to the current state of weakness, humiliation, and subjugation experienced by the Muslim world. The speaker highlights a pattern of powerful nations exploiting Muslim lands without regard for international law, driven by self-interest and targeting Muslim countries specifically. The current plight of the Muslim community is presented as a direct consequence of neglecting this fundamental duty.
The soul is the center of our existence, distinct from the body. While the body originates from the earth, remains for a time, and ultimately returns to it, the soul is eternal and originates from, and returns to, God. Death involves the separation of the soul from the body; the soul itself does not die but transitions. The act of ‘ قبض’ (taking/receiving) relates to the body, not the soul. The soul’s journey is one of return to its divine source, a concept encapsulated in the phrase ‘Inna lillahi wa ilayhi raji’un.’
A traveler in the desert loses his camel, carrying all his provisions and means of transport. After a desperate search, he encounters death itself. Overwhelmed with relief, he proclaims gratitude to God for this encounter, recognizing his own insignificance and God’s grace. This parable illustrates the immense joy God feels when a sinful servant repents, exceeding even the joy experienced by the traveler at finding ‘death’.
