Human thought profoundly influences behavior, character, and deeds. Conversely, a person’s actions and character significantly shape their thinking. If knowledge and intellectual growth are not accompanied by corresponding action, a decline in character and thought can occur. A disconnect between intellectual understanding and practical application leads to stagnation and potentially a regression in personal development. Actions and character have a direct impact on one’s intellectual and spiritual progress.

The Quran was not revealed all at once, but gradually over a period of time. This approach served multiple purposes. It allowed people to comprehend and internalize the teachings progressively, fostering deeper understanding and personal transformation. The gradual revelation accommodated the capacity of the audience, ensuring they could reflect upon and integrate the message into their lives. This method facilitated a lasting impact on their intellect, mindset, and overall character. The Quranic verse (Surah Bani Israel 106) explicitly states this intentional fragmentation to aid in recitation and comprehension.

Allama Iqbal eloquently states that a Muslim's life is defined by adherence to a constitutional framework – the Quran. This framework sustains the Muslim community, analogous to the body sustained by the soul. Just as a body ceases to function without a soul, the community’s vitality depends on the Quran. The Quran is the heart of the Muslim community, a guiding force and connection to God. Without this divine connection, existence is meaningless; the community is merely dust without a guiding light. The Quran is the rope of God, providing strength and direction. A life devoid of this connection lacks purpose and substance.

Worship should ideally be performed for the pleasure of God, though seeking salvation from hell and entry into paradise is also commendable. While avoiding punishment and attaining heaven are positive goals, prioritizing God’s pleasure is superior. It is not wrong to ask for protection from hell and request paradise, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself made these supplications. However, the ultimate aim should be to seek God’s approval above all else.
