The Quran fundamentally transforms an individual's worldview. Before encountering the Quran, a person might perceive the universe as a random, self-operating system driven by mindless matter. Afterwards, they recognize the existence of a single God – Allah – who is all-powerful, all-knowing, the Sustainer, and the Creator and Director of the universe. This realization shifts perspective from accidental creation to purposeful design and divine governance.
The 20th century witnessed numerous Islamic revivalist movements—such as the Muhammadiyah in Indonesia, Jamaat-e-Islami in the Indian subcontinent, Fidaiyan-e-Islam, and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt—all of which ultimately failed. A fundamental error underlying these failures was the assumption of inherent faith based solely on declaration. Simply professing belief in God and the Prophet is insufficient; true faith necessitates a deep-seated conviction that permeates the heart and illuminates the entire being. The heart, according to the Prophet Muhammad, is the core of the body; its health determines the well-being of the whole. Without a genuine connection to faith, one deceives themselves by merely claiming to be Muslim.
The existence of multiple deities would inevitably lead to chaos and disorder within the universe, disrupting the established harmony. Conflicting wills and opinions would prevent the precise, balanced operation of creation. The consistent order observed—where every action aligns with its intended consequence—demonstrates a single, unifying will governing all existence. This consistency serves as proof of the oneness of God.
The speaker clarifies the distinction between legitimate leasing (ijara) and purchases financed through interest (riba). Leasing involves renting an asset for a specified period, with the renter paying a monthly fee and covering operational costs. In contrast, an interest-based purchase involves financing the full price of an asset over time, accruing interest on the outstanding amount. The speaker emphasizes that financing a purchase with interest, even if labeled differently, constitutes riba and is prohibited. Legitimate leasing does not involve any form of interest or profit on the asset itself, only a rental fee for its use. The discussion highlights that changing the label of an interest-based transaction does not alter its fundamentally prohibited nature.
The Quran possesses two levels of understanding. The first is a surface-level comprehension, readily accessible like oil floating on water after a tanker leak. This represents the primary lessons and wisdom directly present within the text. The deeper level, however, is immeasurable, akin to the depths of the ocean, requiring profound exploration to fully grasp its complexities. Just as measuring the ocean's depths is a challenge, so too is comprehending the full extent of the Quran’s wisdom.
This lecture emphasizes that voting is an act of entrusting responsibility, akin to appointing a trustworthy advisor. Voters should prioritize competence, integrity, and suitability when selecting representatives at all levels—from local officials to national leaders. The speaker cautions against prioritizing personal connections, nepotism, or self-interest. The selection process must ensure that chosen individuals are truly capable of serving the nation, community, and wider collective, upholding principles of justice and competence in governance. The ultimate goal is to establish an organization built on merit and dedicated to selfless service.
