Even those who never received a prophetic message will be judged based on these innate qualities. God has provided humanity with the tools for moral reasoning and spiritual awakening, and this internal guidance forms the basis of divine judgment. The sending of prophets and scriptures served to complete the argument and provide clear guidance, making the test of life easier. The soul possesses inherent knowledge of and love for God, which is awakened by divine revelation.

The Quran is structured into groups of verses – Makki (Meccan) and Madni (Medinan). The earliest form of worship was standing in prayer at night, initially for two-thirds, then one-third of the night, with recitation of the Quran. At that time, only a portion of the Quran had been revealed. Later, during the eleventh year, five daily prayers were mandated in Makkah. Before this, practices like fasting, interest, gambling, and alcohol were not prohibited. There was no complete established Sharia law; only faith (Iman) existed.

The name Ramadan originates from the intense heat that once prevailed in Arabia, causing hardship and even death. People perceived this time as one where purification occurred naturally. The month of Ramadan was thus associated with cleansing and seen as a period where accumulated impurities within the human body were naturally eliminated. The practice of fasting was ordained by God to facilitate this process. Another interpretation connects the name Ramadan to one of God’s names, signifying ‘the month of God.’ This is supported by a tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, who identified Sha’ban as his month and Ramadan as God’s month.
